Rivas Cello Academy

The Rivas Cello Academy (RCA) was born out of the success of the Online Cello Masterclasses that I started to host in April of 2020. The creation of the RCA promises to expand the number of services and resources that I can offer to the international cello learning community in collaboration with an equally diverse faculty.

Private and Group Lessons will be offered online and in-person (when safely possible) to young and adult students that are eager to learn or improve their cello playing. These lessons will include the opportunity to:

  • Perform regular recitals private and live-streamed through Facebook/YouTube

  • Exclusive masterclasses with world renown cellists

Focused Classes on specific subjects will run throughout the year. This is an opportunity to focus on a specific subject that a cello learner needs to improve, offering in-depth discussions on different subjects such as

  • Music Theory & Solfege,

  • Scales & Arpeggios,

  • Etudes (Popper, Dotzauer, etc.)

  • Bach Cello Suites,

  • Orchestral Auditions Repertoire,

  • College Auditions,

  • Instrument Maintenance,

  • Health and Self-care for musicians,

  • Performance Anxiety, and more.

Chamber Music Coaching is also available to pre-existing groups or groups organized by RCA. Groups can have a range of 2-5 members and they will have the opportunity to work with coaches that specialize on all instruments represented in the group. This will ensure that each member will receive expert guidance from a master of that specific instrument.

Strings Boot Camps will be offered during the year; one during the summer and another during the winter breaks. The faculty will include world renown musicians that are eager to teach and help you grow.

The Rivas Fine Instrument and its associates can assist with instrument rental, purchase, and accessories. We have a wide range of instruments and bows of various sizes and price ranges that can accommodate your needs.

Scroll down to visit our Lessons & Programs page for more information and the Rates & Registration page to sign up for the class that suits your needs.

Teaching Philosophy

Rivas emphasis on a solid technique, based on healthy and “smart” practice habits has helped many students across continents to achieve their full potential. In addition, Rivas’ own active career as a passionate performer serves as a role model for students to find the right balance between technique and music making.

Online Cello Masterclass

Welcome to the information page for the Rivas Cello Academy cello masterclass. This series of free online cello masterclasses started as personal way to provide a source of inspiration and a sense of community amid a global pandemic. Soon after the whole world collapsed, I realized that, while I was struggling to reorganize my live, I could also provide a much needed service to an international community of cellists who were cut off from their friends, teachers, and audience. The first masterclass took place in April of 2020 and the response and participation of both guest teachers and students have been overwhelming.

For now, the masterclasses will continue to take place once a month. Pleas visit this page for information about the next masterclass or through my social media platforms.

All levels and ages are welcome to audit or sign up to perform. To register, please click on the link bellow and you will be getting an email with the zoom meeting link the day of the masterclass.

Meet the guest teachers!
